Voluntary Insurance Overview

When an unexpected illness or injury happens, your focus should be on getting better, not on financial worries. While you can't predict life's unexpected events, you can get the coverage you need to plan for them. XL Catlin supports you by offering voluntary insurance that can help protect your financial future.

Eligibility

You are immediately eligible for critical illness, accident, and hospital care insurance.

Eligible dependents are:

  • Children from birth up to the end of the calendar year in which they reach age 26, if colleague is enrolled in coverage

Portability

All three coverages are portable, meaning you can take the policies with you, even if you leave XL Catlin.

Critical Illness Insurance

When you experience a serious illness, critical illness insurance protects against the financial impact of certain conditions, such as a heart attack, cancer, or stroke.

You receive a lump-sum benefit to cover out-of-pocket expenses for your treatment, to pay your coinsurance, or to take care of your everyday living expenses, such as housekeeping services, special transportation services, and child care.

Benefit amounts include:

  • $10,000 for colleagues*
  • $5,000 for spouses/domestic partners*
  • $2,500 for dependent children*
  • $12,500 for WA resident colleagues only

Accidental Injury Insurance

Accidental injury insurance helps protect you from unexpected financial stress if you or a covered family member experiences an off-the-job catastrophic accident. It supplements your primary medical plan by providing cash benefits. You can use this money to help pay for medical expenses not paid by your medical plan or for anything else, such as everyday living expenses.

You receive a cash benefit up to a specific amount for expenses, such as:

  • Accidental death
  • Dismemberment
  • Dislocation or fracture
  • Initial hospital confinement
  • Intensive care
  • Ambulance
  • Medical expenses
  • Outpatient physician’s treatment

The actual benefit amount is based on a fee schedule and depends on the type of injuries you have and the medical services you need.* For more information on this benefit, call Cigna, accessible via Contacts on this page.

Hospital Care Insurance

A trip to the hospital can be stressful—and the bills you receive later can be, too. Even with a major medical plan, you may still be responsible for significant out-of-pocket costs.

Hospital care insurance can help offset the costs associated with a covered sickness or accident. Use this money to help cover hospital stays, ambulance service, surgery, and certain inpatient or outpatient treatments. The plan pays benefits in addition to any other insurance.

The actual benefit amount is based on a fee schedule and depends on the type of injuries you have and the medical services you need.* For more information on this benefit, call Cigna, accessible via Contacts on this page.
